Lewis Elementary Gardening Club Who: 3rd Grade When: Every other week, during enrichment - day of the week will vary Where: Meet in W.T. Lewis Cafeteria, then head outside to tend to the garden Why: The Blooming Bulldogs of W.T. Lewis offers a place to enrich teaching efforts with powerful hands-on experiences that make learning come alive. As members of the Blooming Bulldogs, students will learn the process of caring for plants & take ownership over the entire process from planting to plate. Educators and researchers have noted many benefits to students participating in school garden programs including: increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, improvement in attitudes towards fruits and vegetables, improvement in science achievement scores, improvement in social skills and behaviors, & instillation of respect for nature. The cost is $50 per student, which includes a W.T. Lewis Blooming Bulldogs tshirt & any supplies needed for the year. No refunds will be given. W.T. Lewis Elementary: Our Kindergarten through 3rd Grade students will be completing their middle of year Literacy Screener on Tuesday, December 10th and Wednesday, December 11th. All Kindergarten-3rd Grade students need to be present and on time on these days. Also, there will be no visitors allowed in the building on these days, due to state testing. W.T. Lewis Elementary: W.T. Lewis is collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items until December 13th in support of Bossier Parish Operation Blessing, the parish food bank program. Items needed: peanut butter, canned meats, canned beans, pasta & pasta sauce, canned vegetables, sugar, baby food/formula, cereal, soups, rice, apple sauce. There are bins located at the front of the school for students to drop their donations into. Thank you for helping us give back to our community!
