Dear High School Parents,

We are pleased to announce that our district-wide ACT Testing Day will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. On this day, the Louisiana Department of Education will cover the cost for every junior to take the ACT, providing them the opportunity to earn a college-reportable score at no cost to their families. Bossier Schools will also extend this opportunity to all sophomores and select seniors who have not yet met a college or career readiness marker, continuing our commitment to supporting students’ college and career readiness.

On this day:
All registered sophomores, juniors, and seniors will take the ACT at their assigned schools during the school day.
Non-testers (students not scheduled to take the ACT) will participate in a virtual learning day from home on March 24th. This includes all 9th-grade students and any other students who are not assigned to test that day.

Why is Taking the ACT Important for Students?
The ACT is a nationally recognized college admissions test that evaluates skills in English, math, reading, and science. It is an important step for students planning to pursue higher education. Taking the ACT multiple times has been shown to improve scores, as students gain familiarity with the test format and have additional opportunities to refine their skills. Higher ACT scores can lead to:

Increased college admissions opportunities
Greater eligibility for scholarships and financial aid
More accurate placement in college-level courses

Benefits of a District ACT Testing Day
Convenience: Students take the ACT during the school day, eliminating the need for weekend testing or additional transportation.
Cost Savings: The district covers testing fees for all eligible students.
Focused Testing Environment: Holding testing during the school day ensures a quiet, structured setting. All school staff are engaged in supporting testing, and all students on campus that day are participating in ACT testing.

Resources to Help Students Prepare
We encourage students to take advantage of various resources to prepare for the ACT:

ACT Official Website: Free practice tests, question-of-the-day resources, and test-taking tips at www.act.org.

Online Tools: Platforms such as Khan Academy and ACT Academy offer personalized practice to help students strengthen their skills.

Study Sessions: Students are encouraged to set aside dedicated time for review and practice leading up to test day.

ACT Quiz Me: ACT practice test questions.

What Parents Can Do
Ensure your student gets plenty of rest the night before the test and eats a healthy breakfast on test day.
Remind your student to bring required materials, including a school ID, an approved calculator, and pencils.
Encourage a positive mindset—confidence and preparation can make a meaningful difference.
Thank you for supporting your student’s academic journey. If you have any questions about ACT Testing Day or would like additional information about preparation resources, please contact Parkway High School Instructional Coach/Test Coordinator Abiyah Williams at abiyah.williams@bossierschools.org

UPDATE: Thursday, January 29, 2026

Bossier Schools will remain CLOSED for students and teachers Friday, January 30 out of an abundance of caution due to continued safety concerns on our campuses as a result of the wintry weather.

We cannot risk your children’s return to school until the thick ice accumulation melts or can be removed from awnings, walkways, bus ramps and parking lots.

Our district leaders and 12-month employees will be working Friday to get our schools and centers ready for reopening Monday, February 2, and to de-ice and prepare for another round of frigid temperatures being forecast for the weekend. This is a work day at our schools and centers, and they will not be open for normal operations.

We know this week has been unusual and Bossier Schools greatly appreciates your understanding, support and working with us to make the best of the situation.

UPDATE: Wednesday, January 28, 2026

Out of an abundance of caution, all Bossier schools and district offices will remain CLOSED Thursday, January 29 as the district continues to assess the impact the recent winter storm is having on operations.

Though the ice is melting, considerable hazards remain on roadways, bus ramps, in car lines and on our school campuses, making it unsafe for our students and staff to return. In addition, the National Weather Service is forecasting freezing fog overnight and into Thursday morning, heightening the danger of traveling.

It is our hope to reopen Friday, January 30 after another day of above-freezing temperatures. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding this week and will provide another update at 4 p.m. Thursday.
