Workplace Safety

Workplace Safety is comprised of three Industry-Based Credentials, NCCER Core, OSHA 10 hour Construction, and 1st AID/CPR. All of these introduce the student to basic safety awareness on a work site. Completion of these areas of study will enable a student to have a better chance of entering the workforce.

NCCER Core, a construction-oriented subject, relates to being introduced to basic hand tools as well as powered hand tools used in the construction business. Emphasis is placed on inspection of the tools and proper handling of the tools in a working environment.

OSHA 10 hour Construction, also a construction-oriented subject, touches on several areas of safety-related activities ranging from the basic introduction to OSHA, Fall Protection, Personal Protection Equipment, and Hazard Communication to name a few. Just as NCCER places an emphasis on safety the OSHA 10 material is also an introduction to safety procedures relative to the construction industry.

Upon completion of Maintenance Assistant, the student should have earned the credentials listed above, in addition to having received training in basic 1st AID/CPR. These areas are essential elements to enter the workplace in this day and time and by having this training it shows the potential employer the applicant has a basic awareness of what it takes to carry out their tasks while on the job in a safe manner.
