Marvin Nelson

About Mr. Nelson

Marvin Nelson earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University and a M.S. in Engineering Management from Southern Methodist University.  He worked for 17 years in the defense electronics industry as an engineer and project manager. Marvin completed an alternative certification program at LSU-Shreveport in mathematics and is also a certified (AP) physics teacher.  Marvin helped pioneer the NICERC Regional Autonomous Robotic Competition and has worked with NICERC and the Louisiana Tech University College of Engineering and Science to develop and pilot new STEM curricula and conduct professional development for STEM teachers.

 

Marvin is married to his wife Carol (a nurse at Willis-Knighton). They have two children, Nate and Jessica – both graduates of Benton High School and graduates of Louisiana Tech and LSU-Baton Rouge with STEM degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry respectively.  Marvin lives in Rocky Mount with his wife and two dogs.
